This 500 year old timber framed hostelry overlooking the market place was opened in 1980. Terry and Louise George managed The Starr for many years, but took it over in November 2003. It is a family run restaurant with rooms which has gained a reputation for excellent food and fine wines, served in a friendly yet professional atmosphere. Luncheon is served seven days a week and dinner every evening except Sunday in the main dining room or in the elegant conservatory.
The style is unpretentious, with an interesting menu and wine list. The menu is brief, handwritten and could include caramelised scallops on a creamy risotto, succeeded by roast rack of lamb with spinach and potato rosti. Desserts are spontaneous and are followed by memorable petits fours with your coffee.
