At last, Henley has an Indian restaurant with a remarkable difference: The Spice Merchant.

It is so different that owner, proprietor and food guru, Bashir Islam, has just been nominated as a local food hero in a new TV series made by Denham Productions, the producers of Rick Stein and Keith Floyd's many TV shows.

In Henley, as with the rest of our group, food quality matters. Our ingredients are all 100% traceable and of the finest quality. Our chefs have been recruited from throughout the many regions of India. Each adds his own touch of regional spice, to create our unique offer.

We pride ourselves on our professionalism and cleanliness. Our kitchens are impeccable (ask for a tour - and see our talented team in action)!

Our menu features a reworking of the Indian classics - fresh, zingy curries, market-fresh vegetables, rice, breads and tandoori dishes.

But Spice Merchant is not just about curry - we feature a whole range of stunning dishes that you won't have tried before.

We offer unbeatable quality at outstanding value. If you're not sure what to choose, just tell us your budget - and our chefs will be delighted to create a menu especially for you.

We look forward to welcoming you to Spice Merchant Henley for an unforgettable experience.

Ordered a take away from Spice Merchant (unsurprisingly the restaurant was deserted) for the second time in six months yesterday. My first experience was not good, but thinking it might have been an off-day, decided to give the place a second chance. I certainly won’t be making the mistake a third time. Circa £15 for 5 king prawns coated in a gelatinous, congealed sauce – which in its original form must have been derived from mango chutney. The chicken jalfrezi was worse. I’m convinced it was made using a ‘cook-in’ sauce modified with dozens of strips of red pepper, lumps of chicken, paprika and a token whole green chilli to add some authenticity. 70% of our meal was thrown away. Don’t be fooled by the enviable riverside location, contemporary interior and elaborate packaging – the quality of the food is dreadful and over-priced.
