Granite walls in house interiors can be daunting, but not this one in the dining room of this solid 18th century house. Perhaps it's something to do with the open fire, the lighting and a vastly impressive wine rack. Local products feature strongly on the menu. After a burst at the canapés try the terrine of wild game with rabbit, guinea fowl, pigeon, venison and quail served with a sweet pickle chutney. Stir-fried tenderloin of local pork with nuts, lime, garlic, mint and ginger could set a man alight. To round off, try the lemon and lime citrus tart with crème anglaise after which there is always one of the wonderful West Country cheese boards. A sensible wine list helps the day along and house wine is there at £10.50.
