After spending a year in France rediscovering his love for food Michelin starred chef John Burton-Race and his family moved to Devon. They took over the famous Carved Angel restaurant in Dartmouth and re-opened it as 'The New Angel' in May 2004.

From then on it has been all go for the family... the restaurant achieved a Michelin star after only 7 months of trading. This was follwed by John's second series 'Return of the Chef' being aired on channel 4 in January 2005.

Rather than sit back and enjoy their success John and wife Kim went on to open both The New Angel Rooms and Cookery School in Autumn 2005.

Then in October 2005 the restaurant won AA restaurant of the year England 2005/2006.
