What "The List" Said
"Due to open in the middle of April 2005, La Favorita is, according to owner Tony Crolla (who also runs Vittoria's, just up the road), aiming to be 'the best pizzeria in Britain'."
"He's spared little expense in completely refitting the old premises of the Caprice, where Edinburgh's original wood-fired pizza oven was found. Two brand-new wood-fired ovens have been installed, and the 150-cover restaurant fitted out in a chic, contemporary style."
"Some 34 different pizzas are the headline act on the menu. Ranging from £6 to £9.95, the emphasis here is on flavour -- the fact that they're cooked with a hot flame from pine and olive wood ensures a crisper pizza as well as a distinctive smoky taste. Originality isn't far behind: the Simpatica pizza has a white base (ie no tomato), mozzarella, artichokes, Gruyère and grated lemon. Also available will be a range of freshly made gourmet pasta dishes and a small selection of salads and main dishes. At lunchtime smaller pizzas and pasta dishes will be available for £5, while a separate section within the restaurant will offer the same selection of pizzas for takeaway."
