Review by Neil Hamilton, 2010-02-06 Food: Service: Atmosphere:
Having visited this restaurant at Fatfield several times, we booked for last night to celebrate our Son’s 21st birthday. Sadly, things did not turn out quite as we had hoped.
We had specifically requested a corner table when booking as we wanted a little privacy yet were shown to a table in the centre of the room. Whilst this was quickly corrected, it did however set the scene for what was to follow. Three of our party ordered potato skins, which were soft and lifeless rather than crisp. With the main courses, we ordered additional chips and onion rings. The chips were soft and oily (if I had received such chips from a takeaway, I would have returned them). The onion rings were obviously frozen (I make my own beer battered onion rings at home and do not expect canteen food when paying almost £150 for a meal). My Wife’s medium fillet steak (£17.95) was burnt in places and her crème caramel desert was presented plainly on the plate, no decoration nor dusting etc. which we had been used to.
Both my wife and I were most disappointed and minded to complain at the time but declined as to do so would have caused embarrassment to the rest of our party. A 21st birthday is a once in a lifetime event which we did not wish to spoil any further. I emailed the restaurant the following day (10/12/09) but have heard nothing to date.
