Kirsty Stewart-Brown has spent the past 15 years running successful restaurants in Glasgow. And the past 2 years earning accolades for her own creation, Browns in Lanark's Wellgate.
Today it is one of Lanarkshire's most popular restaurants and deservedly so. Open seven days a week, it offers a range of menus, all with a unique slant on Scottish cuisine.
From the outset, Kirsty had her own idea of what Browns should be. The principles of good food and even better service were paramount in her thinking. Good local produce and imaginative dishes were her main ingredients. With her husband, Derek, already a breeder of rare sheep and a self-confessed 'country food fanatic', it made sense to combine their talents.
It all started with a trio of run-down flats which had certainly seen better days. Kirsty sourced the finishings and fabrics in order to provide a restaurant that would be comfortable and attractive yet create surroundings where customers would want to linger. Be it over an after-dinner liquor or a lazy cup of coffee with Sunday breakfast.
Fortunately, Browns attracted Head Chef, Derek Mather, who runs the formidable Browns kitchen team. His imagination and experience has led to the core creation of our menus. With the wealth of local game available, quality beef from the finest herds and rare Hebridean lamb from their own flocks, Derek and his team have created Scottish cuisine that while traditional, isn't afraid to embrace more exotic ingredients.
The end result is an intimate, warm atmosphere - a cosy and welcoming space that we are proud to call our restaurant.
