We loved this place. Food was excellent and wine, well priced. Particularly liked the front of house who carefully sussed out that we were a table to tease and be teased by, and proceded to do just that. Loved the story of the ex-MI5 girls (89+) knocking back the wine at lunch who were indignant at being accused (lightly) of being alcoholics. "We're drunks. Alcoholics go to meetings!". Starters of smoked duck breast and foie gras excellent but do have the lamb faggots (superb) and avoid the political correctness! Mains of game were really good too, partridge (confit and breast) and slow roasted venison with a slice of fresh foie gras on top which really made a difference. We all enjoyed the puddings (panna cotta with cassis sorbet, poached pear with chocolate mousse and a lovely appley calvados thing adding up to under £27 on a Saturday night. The wines were good particularly the Claire Valley Shiraz at £26. think the word to sum up the cooking was harmonious, everything fitted together taste-wise and made for a lovely evening. In the words of Macarthur, we shall return!
